NCPDP Unit refers to the standardized NCPDP billing units of “gm”, “ml”, or “ea”, as described in the NCPDP Billing Units Standards. The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) maintains a Billing Unit Standard that defines the unit of measure in which a product is to be dispensed. The standard states that there are only three billing units necessary to describe any and all drug and health-related products: “EA” (each) is used when the product is dispensed in discreet units. The Billing Unit of “EA” is also used to address exceptions where “GM” and “ML” are not applicable. “ML” (milliliter) is used when a product is measured by its liquid volume. “GM” (gram) is used when a product is measured by its weight. Per NCPDP billing guidelines, each product must be adjudicated with one of the three standardized billing units. string
